Dr. Ungemach is a Certified MUA Physician.  Manipulation Under Anesthesia, or MUA, is a highly specialized, non-invasive stretching technique for chronic pain patients who have failed to respond to long term conservative care or failed surgical interventions. Manipulation Under Anesthesia works by breaking up adhesions and scar tissues to restore range of motion while the patient is in a safe, temporary twilight sedation. The treatment is performed in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center (ASC) by licensed physicians with specialized training and certification specifically for the procedure. A team approach is required to have safe and successful results.  Since graduating from chiropractic school, Dr. Ungemach has continued to pursue his education and has taken post-doctoral courses in Advanced Computer Aided Analysis and Adjusting, Whiplash/Spinal Trauma, Diagnosing/Differentiating/Treating Fibromyalgia and Myofascial pain syndrome, Trigger point therapy and soft tissue techniques, Treatment and prevention of Sports Injuries, Biomechanics. Ergonomics in the workplace, Treatment and management of scoliosis, Detection and correction of muscle imbalances, Pediatric and Geriatric specialized care, Posture, Gait, and Sensory-Motor Training, Spinal pain syndromes, Advanced Functional Extremity Training and Adjusting, TMJ, and Advanced Radiological (X-ray, CT, MRI) reading and interpretation to name a few.

"My focus in practice is family/wellness and sports medicine centered. I have treated patients of all ages, from professional athletes with spinal or extremity problems to patients simply needing high quality chiropractic care. I use multiple chiropractic techniques in my practice including the Sigma Ultralign Pro-adjuster Computer Adjusting Instrument, Thompson, Peirce, Cox Flexion/Distraction, Diversified, Activator, PNT, Soft Tissue Manipulation, Muscle Energy, Upper Cervical, and Advanced Functional Extremity Adjusting techniques, depending on each patients unique needs." Dr. Ungemach's extensive knowledge of these techniques allows him to treat most spinal and extremity problems in his office easily and effectively with the primary goal of reducing pain and dysfunction, while restoring strength and improving athletic performance. Dr. Ungemach's proven treatment approach and protocols also applies to those who require performance optimization from the physical stress of regular activities of daily living, from prolonged work postures which can lead to repetitive strain disorders or injuries such as what is now being called text neck, or from chronic pain from post surgical cervical spine (neck) or lumbar spine (lower back) fusion issues.

Helping Patients Get Their Lives Back

Dr. Scott works to provide his patients with the most effective solutions to reduce their pain and restore function.  He finds it very gratifying to help patients who come in with pain to heal without  having to go through surgery, but sometime, that is unavoidable do to the degree of degeneration.  Dr. Scott likes helping his patients get their lives back so they can resume doing the activities that they enjoy. “Being able to give someone their quality of life back is tremendously rewarding. It’s the little things in life we take for granted, like being able to play with our kids or grand kids, participate in recreational activities such as golf or gardening, or just being able to perform our activities of daily living without pain. You never know how important the simple things are until they are gone. Being able to provide an opportunity for a patient to regain what was once lost is very gratifying, that is exactly why I chose to become a doctor of Chiropractic.” From the urgent to often complex needs of serious auto accidents, personal and athletic injuries, to patients with repetitive motion injuries and/or general muscle imbalances, Dr. Scott tries to provide his patients with the most effective solutions to reduce their pain and restore function. As a result, he often integrates services directed by other specialists in related fields. These areas include physical therapy, pain management and surgery, if needed. He creates a customized treatment plan that works best for each patients unique needs. “If I can’t help you, I will do my best to find someone who can.”  Dr. Ungemach has created a trusted network of specialist that he utilizes when needed. "I take pride in the fact that I know what I can and can not treat with physical medicine, and more importantly, that I know when I need to refer out to other specialties. I believe that to arrive at the best treatment solutions for our patients, physicians must have a strong understanding of all the options available and a willingness to utilize them. Occasionally there are times when treatment by multiple health care specialists is required and a referral for co-management, or a better treatment option, is made in the best interest of my patient.” For this reason, Dr Ungemach has put together a trusted network of the best doctors in their related fields, and he knows that when he has to refer his patients out for care, they will receive the same high quality care they are accustomed to in his office.

Outside the Office

When not in the office, Dr. Scott enjoys fishing, golf, snowboarding, and any type of competitive shooting. But most of all, he enjoys spending his time with his wife, Tracey, and their son, Ethan. The family likes going to the beach, traveling, and spending time outdoors together. Dr. Scott has served on several community and private boards and has been a guest lecturer/educator for many different clubs and organizations.

“B.J. Palmer once said, “You never know how far reaching something you may think, say, or do today will affect the lives of millions tomorrow.” I take that quote to heart as millions of people are suffering everyday with needless and preventable health problems. I will do my best to make a difference in their lives.

I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how I may be of service to you. Give me a call at 610 558-1001 and If I find that I can’t help you, I will do my best to find someone who can." - Scott D. Ungemach DC
